Abstract

This study investigates the integration of traditional construction tools, specifically pointed wooden stakes, within modern construction methodologies, focusing on the perceptions and usage among Technology Students, Technology Instructors, and Construction Workers. Despite the advent of advanced construction technologies, wooden stakes remain widely used in academic and practical settings due to their affordability. However, a disconnect between theoretical instruction and field application persists. The study employed a descriptive research design using surveys and structured interviews to gather data from selected respondents at Cebu Technological University–Pinamungajan Campus and affiliated construction sites in the 3rd District of Cebu. Respondents included technology students, instructors, and practicing construction workers. Data were analyzed through frequency distribution, thematic analysis, and comparative evaluation of perceptions and practices. Findings revealed that technology students use wooden stakes more frequently in academic projects, driven primarily by cost-effectiveness. In contrast, construction workers and instructors prioritize durability and long-term performance. A key concern across all groups was the stakes' vulnerability to decay and weakening over time. Oil treatment was identified as a commonly adopted method for preservation. Emerging awareness of advanced treatments, such as nano-coatings and eco-friendly preservatives, showed potential for improving stake performance and sustainability. The study underscores the need to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical construction standards through enhanced curriculum design and industry-academe collaboration. Promoting sustainable practices and preservation techniques can significantly increase the functional lifespan and environmental viability of wooden stakes. The insights from this research offer guidance for improving both educational outcomes and field-level practices in construction layout methodology.
